Keighleys detailed film idea

The first shot is a mid shot of a girl (Sarah) standing on the top of a building shaking her head at the thought of what she's about to do. This is to get the audiences minds thinking about what could have happened or what's about to happen. The next shot is a point of view shot of Sarah looking down at the ground, this is to show the audience how high up she is. She is heavily breathing in the background to represent fear and nerves. The next shot is a mid shot again showing Sarah climb onto the ledge of the building, see her legs shaking with fear as she looks up to the sky. The next shot is an extreme long shot from the ground showing Sarah stood there on the top of the building shaking in fear. This is to make the audience feel as though they are there in he moment witnessing someone trying to commit suicide. The next shot is a point of view long shot of what beautiful scenery Sarah can see before he jumps. The next shot is a close up of Sarah's feet pushing up of the ledge and leaving the ledge. Fades to black then fades back in to a mid shot of Sarah laying dead on the floor with blood all around her. Fades to black and title pops up on the black screen. Fades back in to a bright white screen saying 3 months earlier. The next shot if a long shot of Sarah walking along a street on a cold winters day, shows her shivering and sniffling from the cold weather, the actresses name swipes across the screen of this shot. The next shot is a point of view shot of what Sarah sees as she heads into the public toilets. The next shot is a mid shot of Sarah from behind looking at herself in the mirror sorting her hair and makeup out. The next shot is a mid shot of Sarah trying to get the tap to work, showing the struggle on her face. The next shot is a mid shot from behind Sarah showing her look up into the mirror and jump when she sees a creepy looking woman standing behind her.. The next shot is a close up of Sarah's face as she turns around to look at the creepy woman but by the time she turned around the woman had gone. The next shot is a close up of Sarah's facial expressions as she turns back around to face the mirror, as she is turning around to face the mirror again she gets an excrutiating pain in her head. The next shot is a mid shot of Sarah wiping the tears from her eyes once the pain has wore off, then moving to a different tap to wash her hands. The next shot is a close up of Sarah washing her hands, then blood dripped on them. The next shot is a mid shot of Sarah looking back up to the mirror to see her nose bleeding. A drop of blood drips next to the police badge. The shot will fade out for the final time to reveal the final actors name, it will stay on the screen for a few seconds before fading out to the next shot of Ian. It is a close up shot. In this shot Ian can be seen waking up, he opens and closes his eyes a couple of times before widening his eyes to look at his surroundings. The close up shot shows the main characters facial expression, he looks uncomfortable, confused and lost.He looks up towards the flickering light bulb as the camera pans towards it.The light stops flickering and stays turned on as the shot fades to white and fades back into the middle sequence of the film.

As the previous shot fades back into the next scene, a bright questioning room can be seen. It is quiet.Three people are sat at a desk in the middle of the room.On the table there are lots of files and a voice recorder. There is a extreme close up shot of someone pressing the record button on the voice recorder and the timer begins. The shot cuts to another extreme close up shot of a man (the criminal) with his hands locked in handcuffs behind his back.It then cuts to a medium close up of Ian asking if they should get started with the questioning process. He brings his files into the shot slightly hits them on the table and places them back onto the table, his facial expressions show that he looks in pain and he is sweating, he wipes the sweat on his forehead before making eye contact with the people sat at the otherside of the table. The shot cuts back to a medium shot of the criminal and his representative, the criminal is smiling whilst his representative looks towards him and slightly smiles before turing forward towards Ian and nods his head.Continuing on from this there is a sequence of shot-reverse shot whilst the characters are talking to each other.Ian is interegating the criminal about a crime that has being commited in the local area, three people have recently gone missing and the man they are questioning has a connection with the crime. After the short interegation is over, the representative of the criminal goes to stop the voice recorder, there is another close up of him stopping it and the timer. It then cuts back to a medium shot of the representative collecting his files before nodding his head and leaving the room. The criminal looks to see if the representative has left the room before breaking out of his handcuffs and standing up.The shot pans up towards the criminal to make him see more powerful.

They now enter a chase scene away from the gang and land a pier

(Fades to Black)

The next scene opens up with the police department in front of a cork board with many peoples faces on and evidence everywhere, strewn on desks and all over the cork board. Red string is linking photos against the board in typical detective crime fashion.

two detectives are arguing over models in a book and then their superior officer walks in and they comedically throw the magazine away and it hits a fellow officer.

Superior officer asks them, what on gods earth are you doin'.

this then develops out to them finding out that the main characters are going to try and escape the police, they then get news that they have been spotted out heading towards a pier in a high speed race.

Superior officer the says: Get 'cho mother fuckin' asses out there go go go!!!

This then cut back to the guys at the edge of the pier and many helicopter lights flashing in the background and then focus' onto them they then realise the main cast are surrounded by a mob gang

Mob gang and police have a comedic war with guns and other weaponry and many people dying and then eventually the gang gets arrested.
The main cast then find motor bikes and before being arrested hop on bikes and leg it. this then fades to a detective reading a article about wanted criminals went missing (our main cast) and has a picture of the main actors face.

this image then transitions onto the actors face but he's driving a motorbike on an empty highway with his friends.

The scene continues to be shown in many shots whilst Vietnam feeling By Credence Clearwater plays in the background.

(NOTES: I do not know if I can play the chosen song due to copyright but I will try to find a song that fits. Something very American style. something that Screams FREEDOM!!)

Film continuity

Film continuity

Film continuity is when scenes or shots from films are able to follow on from each other well. Continuity is a set of rules to make a shot go together naturally including framing, camera position, shot size and editing. This also include physical continuity which takes into consideration items such as watches, or different coloured hair whilst filming. If these are not the same during shots, shots can look poorer in quality and more obviously a film giving less emersion in the film.
For example do not shoot from an extreme longshot to a close up, or have a watch in one shot and not in the other unless the actor is shown taking it off.

Shot Reverse Shot
Shot reverse shot is where two shots are clearly edited together so that alternate characters ca be viewed typically during a conversation. In one shot characters will look left and the other look right as if they are facing each other. They may not be filmed directly after each other but are edited to look so.

180° line
Part of continuity is a thing called the 180° rule. This is a type of technical continuity in which the camera cannot pass what is called a line of action. This is typically used when filming a conversation with two people sat across from each other, this line of action allows for shots and reverse shots to allow the audience to see the perspectives and facial expressions of the actors. The camera cannot film the other side  of this 180° line because they look as if the actors have flipped sides thus leading to the audience missing important content or not having the full emersion or escapism of the film.

Match On action
Match on action is when a cut between shots places two frames directly next to each other, This is normally during a motion so the viewer focus's on the movement to make it less likely for the viewer to notice the scene has changed. This creates the sense of immersion through continutiy creating a visual que drawing viewers away form this edit.
Other types of technical continuity includes: Jump cuts, quick movements saving time by missing out and graphical edits in which images stay where they are and do not move unless needed to.

Continuity in Film

Continuity in film are rules set in place to make sure shots run smoother and go together but also to look natural.
The same scene and lines must be repeated in order to get the perfect shot .Continuity stops films from having mistakes from shooting the same scenes at different times. A film with a higher budget often has better continuity than a lower budget film.
Continuity is also a system of editing, this ensures that in the final cut the scenes flow through and run continually even if shot out of sequence.
Continuity refers to the degree which it is cut to without error and a continuity error is called a blooper.

There are three rules for continuity which are 180 degree rule, match on action and shot reverse shot.

Shot reverse shot
Shot reverse is when two shots are edited together that alternate characters, typically in a conversation situation. Usually characters in one frame look left, and in the following frame look right. Shot reverse shot may also not be filmed in the correct order but will be edited together afterwards. You must also ensure that the right amount of shots are filmed to make the shot reverse shot sequence work.

180 degree line
The angle between any two consecutive shots should not exceed180 degree in order to maintain spatial relationships between people and objects in any given sequence of shots. This rule is the principle which underpins all TV and film production and is important to not cross the line of vision between two characters as it breaks continuity.

Match on action
A cut between two shots that places two different framings of the same action next to each other, making it seem to continue uninterrupted. This creates the impression of a sense of continuity  the action carries through a visual bridge which draws the viewers attention away from the slight cutting or continuity issues.

What is continuity in film?

Continuity in film is a set of rules to assure all camera shots go together naturally. It includes framing, camera positions, shot size and editing. The script supervisor is usually in charge of continuity. It needs to be maintained during and between shots. For example, make-up, hair, costume and props. Careful notes of each of these need to be maintained to ensure the state of stability and the absence of disruption. There are three ways to assure continuity in film.

The 180 degree rule is a guideline between characters on-screen. It places the character in a certain position to show the audience where each character is. During dialogue there is an imaginary straight line running between two characters. When the camera remains on one side of the line, it keeps the characters positions consistent between each shot.

Shot-reverse shot is a technique that is used alongside the 180 degree rule. During dialogue one character is seen looking at the other character opposite them. The audience tend to see over one characters shoulder whilst the other character talks, when the other character begins talking the shot switches to face the other way whilst still following the 180 degree rule. It is also an example of eye line match.

Match on action (or a match cut) is when two shots filmed from different positions are joined together. Editing is not continuous unlike the brain which can hide it. The action that is being performed from an angle in one shot is then performed again in another shot with another angle, when this is edited together and matched, the action continues without the brain noticing the seamless cut.For example, if someone is going to walk towards a door and reach for the handle just as their hand touches the door handle the scene will cut to a shot of the door opening from the other side.

Continuity in Film
Continuity is a set of rules that are put in place to ensure that the shots fit together and look natural. The same scenes and lines must be filmed several times in order for the shot to fit perfectly together once you have edited it to what you need.
Continuity is used to stop films from having mistakes from shooting the same scenes at different times. for example the mistakes could be as simple as holding an object in the opposite hand or wearing different clothes.
A film that is produced with a higher budget has more continuity in it than a film produced at a low budget. For example there will be a big difference in continuity between The Big Six and an Independent film company such as Warp Films.
Continuity is a system of editing that allows the final scenes that have been cut flow continuously even if the shot is out of the sequence. It refers to the degree in which it is cut without error.
A continuity error is known as a blooper.
There are three rules in continuity 180 degree line, match on action and shot reverse shot.
180 degree line:
With this rule you can only film one way so that it keeps continuity flowing because is you film on the other side and you break the 180 degree rule then the objects and characters will look the opposite way around. Also if the rule isn't broken then it will intrigue the audience more because the film will flow.
Match on action:
Match on action is film editing and video editing techniques where the editor cuts from one shot to another view that matches the first shot's action. For example a man walks up to a door and reaching for the knob you would get a long shot of him walking up to the door and then a close up of him turning the door handle and opening the door.
Shot, reverse shot:
This is when you have two different shots of the same conversation between two actors, once you have cut and edited the shots and put them together it will look like you have filmed between both of the actors. This rule has the 180 degree line rule within it because you have to stay on the same side of the line in order for it to work and fit together.
